Galela Amanzi Project Receives Support

Galela Amanzi or "Pour the Water" Project

We are very excited to announce the selection of the Galela Amanzi Project as the student fundraising initiative of the year at Rhodes University.  Galela Amanzi, which started at Global PACT South Africa 2008 at Rhodes University, is very excited about this opportunity to increase their capacity to serve their community.

Galela Amanzi's website can be found here: http://amanzi.rucus.ru.ac.za/

"After a close race at the polls, the SRC, in partnership with the Centre for
Social Development, are proud to announce the adoption of Galela Amanzi: Pour the Water as the new Student Fundraising initiative. The poll was taken to
find a collaborative project to replace the very successful Ikhaya Losizo
project.

Galela Amanzi seeks to promote the responsible use of water, as well as to make water available to Community Centres and schools that do not have consistent safe running water. The project will do this by raising money to buy water tanks that will collect rainwater for the community.

Water is the number one mechanism behind food gardens, adequate sanitisation and good health. With the prediction that the year 2025 will bring major water shortages, we believe that this is one of the most important causes we as Rhodes University can support.

We are extremely excited as we anticipate huge student support to back
this worthy project in 2008.

We encourage all house and hall leadership, societies’ leadership, leaders
in student governance and the community at large to focus fundraising on the
Galela Amanzi Project, to make a meaningful fundraising impact.

We look forward to you support,

The Galela Amanzi Fundraising Committee
