Why Create Change?

group

All people notice things in their communities that bother them. You see things that make you think, “This is just wrong!” Maybe something has been a certain way for a very long time, but when you think about it, you say, “Wow, this really is not working.” Maybe you think, “This is not right!”

At Global PACT, we call these “issues.” An issue is something about your community or the world that you want to change. Issues can be big or little, affecting a small group of people or practically everyone. An issue can be something that people are already trying to fix, or something that most people have not thought about yet. There are only two key points to remember about issues.

•    If you think something is important and needs to be changed, it is an issue.

•    If you are brave enough to talk and think about issues, you can change things.

The first step to becoming an effective activist is deciding that you care enough about something to act. Anyone can complain. But if you stop at complaining, you’ve done nothing to solve the problem. In fact, like everyone else who just talks about issues, you’re not part of the solution; you’re part of the problem.
No community is perfect.  Activists are people who join with others to do something about the problems that plague every community. Don’t curse the dark; light a candle! At Global PACT we believe that everyone has a responsibility to work actively for positive change. That is why we focus on activism, and why it is important for you to develop your own skills. There are many ways to be an activist, and how you use your skills is up to you. The essential thing is that you take responsibility for your community and your world.
